Guys hows it going were inside a subaru today and the customers complaining complaining of a loud noise from underneath the car which you can hear right here. Were gonna take a look at that find out where the exhaust leak is alright guys. Now that were underneath.
The subaru here. What im looking for are either cracks in the exhaust cracks in the welds holes in the mufflers etc. And the easiest thing to find will be traces of either black soot.
Or condensation being that the car was just ran for about a minute or so and as far as i could tell you see this joint here i can see a whole bunch of black soot so im gonna assume thats where its coming out of what im gonna do now is lower the car fire it up get back underneath. It while the exhaust is cold and feel around it with my hands. And see if you can feel hot air coming out of her all right guys so now that its running.
Im underneath it here and i can just feel tons of air coming out of it you can take your little piece of paper here and just think that its just moving. Its um. So im for sure i can feel tons of tons of hot air just coming out everywhere so im gonna go ahead and lubricate these two bolts once it cools off and when its dark breaking this open alright so the first thing.
Im gonna do is im gonna go ahead and lubricate these bolts a little bit and remember to use a six point socket on all your exhaust bolts just they dont strip alright guys. So now that i got those two bolts out you go ahead and just wedge a screwdriver up inside there and lo and behold. There is no gasket inside here anymore well this one calls for one of those lead and wire donuts.
And its just completely gone. So im gonna go ahead and slap another one inside there all right so our gasket just got here from subaru and were gonna go ahead and see if it fits. And what were gonna do next is just spread the exhaust and slide.
It in the tapered side will be facing this part right here. Which has a tapered area inside. There and inversely on the right hand side of the screen is all flat.
Thats where the flat side this gaskets gonna go and put the bolts back in before i put the bolts back in im gonna go ahead and wire wheel. The threads and heads and i get the threads all nice and cleaned up and go ahead and use a little bit of anti seize on them. So that if ever has to come back apart.
Itll come back apart real easy just like that sometimes these springs make it hard to put the exhaust back together. The new gasket. So i just clamp.
It together with a vise grip. You get as close as i can and that helps a whole bunch and well just tighten it up until that nuts shouldered up against that bolt now that we got our bolts in im gonna go ahead and let it down and fire it up so you see if it makes any noise. And ill go back underneath it feel for any air or any exhaust gases coming out of here all right listen how much quieter that is ill play a little before and after clip in the same area.
I got no air coming out of here. So here we are back in the car after the job is done we got no noise anywhere sounds real good alright guys so now that its running im underneath the here and i can just feel tons of air coming out of it you can take your little piece of paper. You i got no air coming out of here.
