For ease of reference, this list
is repeated on both Ayala pages.

[#1 and #2 Caretaker]
Ayala was a member of the Maquis and served under Chakotay. In [#1 and #2 Caretaker] he, Chakotay and Tuvok beam aboard Voyager to discuss their missing crewmembers (Torres and Kim), only to find that Tuvok is a Starfleet officer working under cover against the Maquis. Chakotay prevents Ayala from having it out with Tuvok or even attacking him.

Ayala is first seen very soon after the opening moments of the premiè's opening, and with facial hair which he loses on becoming a Starfleet officer [#1 and #2 Caretaker]

[#1 and #2 Caretaker]
The picture shows Chakotay, with Ayala in the background, accusing Tom Paris of selling out his former comrades. Ayala remains on Voyager after this and accompanies Chakotay and Janeway on an away mission to talk to the Caretaker.

[#2 Caretaker, Part Two]
Soon afterwards Ayala joins the away team when they, armed with compression phaser rifles, return to the Array to try and locate Kim and Torres who are missing. Despite the discovery that Tuvok has been working under cover against the Maquis, Ayala is prepared to work with him. He and Tuvok work as a pair scanning the area.
[#2 Caretaker, Part Two]

[#2 Caretaker, Part Two]
At the end of [Caretaker], with the Caretaker's Array destroyed, Janeway makes a shipwide broadcast. During her speech she looks pointedly at Ayala and Kim standing next to each other at Ops and says, "We have no idea of the dangers we're going to face, but one thing is clear, both crews are going to have to work together if we're to survive."

At the mention of "both crews" Ayala and Kim exchange looks.

Ayala is a security officer, and thus wears the gold department colour Starfleet uniform. He is a senior officer who works in various places including the bridge. He is seen frequently throughout the series - examples follow - but very rarely speaks (the occasions when he does are noted).

Ayala is on the bridge in [#10 Prime Factors]. He is standing beside Chakotay who is reading a PADD (perhaps they have been conferring) when Janeway approaches and says to Chakotay: "Report, Commander." at which point Ayala moves off to go about other duties.

above 3 screenshots: Ayala moves away from possibly conferring with Chakotay [#10 Prime Factors]

Ayala is not seen in [#19 Twisted], but he is mentioned twice. When Neelix and Kes are confused about their location, Ayala's quarters are mentioned as being on Deck 7. Later Tuvok reports that he left Ayala in command.

[#14 Faces]
Lt. Ayala, bridge officer, here at Ops in [#14 Faces]: Janeway asks him to scan for alien vessels in the sector. He is seen in the episode [#21 Initiations]. He misses his sons whom he left behind in the Alpha Quadrant.

Ayala is left in command of the ship when Voyager encounters the distortion ring being [#19 Twisted].

[#20 The 37's]
In [#20 The 37's], Ayala is one of the security personnel in the cargo bay present while the senior staff examine the 1936 Ford pick-up truck beamed aboard from where it was drifting in space. In the screenshot he is on the right.

[#20 The 37's]
Later Lt. Ayala joins the security team commanded by Chakotay and Tuvok. The team disembarks from Voyager (not via the transporters; Voyager has landed on the planet) and goes to rescue Janeway and Kes, Kim who have revived eight people from Earth's year 1937 (including the aviatrix Amelia Earhart). The 37's have taken the Voyager crewmembers hostage.

Left: Ayala is issued with a phaser rifle by Tuvok.

The security team disembarks from Voyager. Ayala is behind Chakotay to his right.
[#20 The 37's]
When the 37's along with Janeway, who has persuaded them to see Voyager and be convinced she is sincere, they are attacked by unknown assailants (who turn out to be descendants of the 37's).

Right: The rescue team is pinned down by weapons fire. Ayala can be seen in the distance behind Chakotay.

[#20 The 37's]

In 2372, in [#24 Persistence Of Vision], Ayala passes Janeway in a corridor as he goes to a turbolift. She fancies that she hears the voice of Mark, her fiancé, calling to her (that they are engaged is established in the later episode [#83 Hunters]) and, startled, she turns to look back at Ayala, wondering if it might be he who has spoken or if he has heard the voice.

[#32 Meld]
In [#32 Meld], Lt. Ayala guards the brig where murderer Lon Suder is imprisoned. Tuvok stuns him in order to gain access to the prisoner in order to execute him.
[#32 Meld]

[#34 Death Wish]
In [#34 Death Wish] Ayala is in the Messhall when the Q later known as Quinn transports himself and Janeway there then proceeds to make a little tour of the room. Like the other men on the ship, Ayala is sent to an unknown place by mistake when Q snaps his fingers in an attempt to send himself into oblivion. Ayala and the other men on the ship are restored by (another) Q, the one who became irritatingly familiar to the crew of USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D in [TNG]. For the officer standing to Ayala's right, see Ensign Russell.

Ayala is one of the people Tuvix unsuccessfully appeals to before being forced to undergo the medical procedure designed to separate Tuvix back into Tuvok and Neelix. Tuvix is the name adopted by the being created by the fusion of Tuvok and Neelix, which occurred as the result of a transporter accident [#40 Tuvix].

[#42 and #43 Basics]
In [#43 Basics, Part Two], Ayala is one of those who says he can runs fast. He answers: "Yeah," when Janeway asks for volunteers to run away from the Hanonians and thereby lead them away from the mouth of the cave, and freeing the trapped Voyager crew inside as a result. The crew have armed themselves as best they can from the primitive resources available - some, like Ayala, carry a rock, while others carry rudimentary spears.

[Future's End]
In [#51 Future's End, Part Two] when, on the bridge, Kim reports to Chakotay that, among other things, Janeway has gone to torpedo bay 1 to reconfigure for manual launch, Ayala can be seen in the background.

[#59 Unity]
In [#59 Unity], Lt. Ayala is part of the away team sent after Chakotay who has beamed aboard a Borg cube with the intention of re-activating it. After Kim stuns Chakotay with phaser fire, he and Ayala carry Chakotay. As Chakotay successfully re-activated the cube's neuro-electric generator the re-activated Borg drones advance on the away team, but they are beamed out only just in time.
[#59 Unity]

Lt. Ayala, in [#70 The Gift], guards the brig where ex-Borg drone Seven is imprisoned. When she hurls herself against the holding cell's forcefield, he calls Janeway via comms. audio clip This is one of the few occasions when Ayala speaks.

In [#70 The Gift] Ayala's rank is stated as being that of Ensign - we have to assume he was demoted for a time for some infraction, as Tom Paris was demoted in [#103 Thirty Days] for about a year. Janeway responds to Ayala's message and visits Seven of Nine in the brig. She enters the prisoner's cell, and holds up her hand when Ayala starts to move forward to go with her for protection as Janeway wishes to visit Seven of Nine alone.
[#70 The Gift]

In [#84 Prey], Lt Ayala takes over from Tuvok when Tuvok, Paris and Chakotay leave the Bridge for an away mission to the stricken Hirogen starship.
Later in [#84 Prey], Lt Ayala is one of those standing guard on the injured member of Species 8472 in Section 59, Deck 12, near Deflector Control. He is struck down and injured when Alpha Hirogen, escaped from detention in Sickbay, opens fire on him from behind.

Lt Ayala is on the bridge in [#94 Hope and Fear]. He can be seen as Janeway and Arturis leave the bridge when a Federation starship is encountered.

[#95 Night]
Ayala is on the bridge with other senior crew when Janeway tries to give orders so she can sacrifice herself for the crew. Like the senior staff, Ayala does not obey her orders. Janeway is forced to consider an alternative plan to destroy the spatial vortex and get past the Malon.

[#106 Bride of Chaotica!]
Ayala gets a cup of coffee and some food in the Messhall. At the time, USS Voyager is stuck on a subspace "sandbar" and power is in short supply, affecting replicator use. Neelix tells Ayala: "Look on the bright side - there's only three meals a day."
[#106 Bride of Chaotica!]

Lt. Ayala is working at the rear of the bridge during the scene in [#115 Juggernaut] in which a method of accessing the Malon freighter is discussed.
