The Captain Proton holoprogram's authenticity extends to music typical of the 1930s era and to the type of holocharacters that populate the program, which includes an imitation of the way the characters spoke.
In [Bride of Chaotica!] Tom Paris briefs Janeway about her imminent role as Queen Arachnia. Of Dr Chaotica he informs her:
"First of all, he's a megalomaniac, so it's a good idea to appeal to his ego. ... use grandiose language, he likes to be called sire, and it helps to say things like 'the clever fiendishness of your evil plan is brilliant'. ... Now remember: it's ray-gun not phaser, imagiser not view screen, Earthlings not Terrans. ... These villains always have a trick up their sleeve: trap-doors, secret weapons."
Janeway: "It's the holodeck. I can't be hurt by weapons."
Paris: "That doesn't mean you can't be restrained or thrown into the Dungeon of Pain."
